Interviewing

Introduction

So, your hunt has been successful and you've landed that essential interview. How do you make sure the job doesn't get away from you? The answer is: prepare, prepare, prepare...

Just the thought of an interview might make you feel nervous or apprehensive. but there's no need to be if you prepare for your interview with these tips. And remember, you know yourself and your achievements best. Use the interview to sell yourself to the prospective employer.

You should put as much effort into preparing for an interview as you put into preparing your résumé. Employers will look for confidence, a steady voice, and your record of achievement. You should be prepared to answer two important questions:

  • Why should we hire you?
  • Why would you be right for this position?

During the interview employers will also form opinions about how well they think you will fit in with the department or group.

Make sure you are on time and well groomed for the interview. Bring your portfolio, if requested, as well as your references.

Throughout the interview it's important to be interested, enthusiastic and confident. Listen carefully and be sure to look at the interviewer - not at the floor or walls.
